FREE THE PUPPY MILL 12

In June we recieved an urgent appeal to help with funding to rescue 12 Westies in the USA who were being taken to a puppy mill auction to sell on.  The lack of legislation and regulation particularly in states in the midwest USA has resulted in large numbers of puppy mill breeders operating who keep their dogs in the most inhumane conditions and breed them endlessly.  These dogs rarely have even basic medical care and the puppies are regularly found to be sick or die.  However they are able to make huge profits from spending little on the dogs and selling large numbers of puppies.  In the USA it is still legal to sell puppies in shops and so puppy millers have a steady supply of outlets where no questions are asked!  Auctions sell dogs from one puppy miller to another, often even more unscrupulous, and these little dogs know nothing but living in a 3 foot x 3 foot cage, in squalor, and without any care and attention.

When they saw a group of 12 Westies advertised for auction some determined rescue volunteers and a group of co-operating Westie Rescues decided to try and free them from their cycle of misery.  With only a week's notice they mobilised their troops, had someone register to attend the auction, had rescue volunteers standing by to transport the Westies to foster home around the country and WWRF organised the fundraising to fund this mission.

Our generous and dedicated supporters and contributors helped by raising a staggering amount of money (over $10,000) to ensure that these 12 puppy mill Westies could be freed from their life of misery.  2 very brave volunteers attended the auction.  They secured 10 of the Westies at auction, but were determined not to leave without the other 2!  One pup had been withdrawn from the auction, and other was sold illegally to a breeder in the back room of the auction.  Well dont mess with Westie lovers we say!!!  Before the end of the day the volunteers had all 12 Westies and also an 11 year old Wheaten Terrier for good measure!  Our new auction motto ... NONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND!

All have now been found new loving homes and are living life as loved members of their new families.

THIS AMAZING STORY DEMONSTRATES WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN RESCUES WORK TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL!  THANK YOU!
